All About Amber/ Sources & Age of Amber |
|
Amber comes in many types and from different sources.
One main source of amber is the Dominican Republic. The ages of the amber there are listed between 20 and 40 million years old. The amber inclusion’s internal organs are usually better preserved here than in amber from other areas like the Baltic regions.
Another main source of amber is in the Baltic regions, those countries surrounding the Baltic Sea. The main ones are: Poland, Russia, Germany, Denmark, and Lithuania. A lot comes out of Kaliningrad, Russia. This amber is from the Upper Eocene – Lower Oligocene period.
Another source of amber is from New Jersey. This amber is from the Cretaceous period, the age of the dinosaurs!
