All About Amber/ Properties of Amber |
|
Amber is fluorescent. This is most apparent when looking at it under a UV light source.
The size of amber varies. The largest piece ever found was from Borneo and weighed 150 pounds. The largest piece of Baltic amber, found near Stettin in Poland in 1860, weighed 21.5 pounds (9.8 Kg).
Some solvents will dissolve amber, such as chloroform, alcohol, and ether.
Amber is a poor heat conductor.
The specific gravity of amber is such that it will float in heavily salted water but not float in unsalted water.
